Summary:
Winter mountaineering in Scotland is like no other; remote, harsh but undeniably beautiful. This is a 3 day course which covers all skills vital to planning your trips in full winter conditions. We run this course in the Cairngorms National Park in Scotland and will be based in Aviemore for the duration of the week. From here we have loads of options to head up onto the Cairngorm Plateau and tick off a whole host of stunning Peaks whilst also teaching you all the skills you'll need to head off by yourselves once completed.

Who's this for?
Hill walkers / Hikers or Climbers looking to progress into winter mountaineering.
Experience needed:
Prior hill walking experience needed, a reasonable level of fittness and plenty of psyche! Minimum age 16+
Kit needed:
A full equipment list is contained in your confirmation email. We can provide an ice axe, crampons and a helmet if needed & boots can be hired locally if required (let us know!). You need to be self sufficient in terms of the rest of kit and food for this course. Scottish winters can be harsh so some good kit and layers are essential!

Itinerary:
Day 1 - Our start time and meeting point is 9:30am at the Cairngorm Mountain Railway cafe. Here we can have a brew / check kit and talk through the. From here we will head straight into the mountains and start looking at moving in winter.
Days 2/3 - Locations and starting points may change due to conditions however days 2/3 we will be looking at all the hard skills to keep you safe in winter. These will include the ice axe arrests, navigation, dealing with emergency situations and avalanche awarness. Let try and bag a good peak or two along the way as well?
How to book:
To book its super simple, we have 'Open Courses' which run regularly throughout the season on set dates. Just select which date works for you and book online.

FAQ's
Yes! We are happy to supply you relevant materials for your course however can't supply water proofs or walking boots etc. We will however supply ice axes / Crampons / Maps and Navgation tools! We will email a comprehensive kit list to you prior to starting.
No Problem, we'll happily come pick you up from the closest bus or train station the evening before. The closest train station to us where we are based is the one in Aviemore. If you're struggling, drop us a call and we're sure we can sort something out to help you.
